The Brownsville Historical Association is proud to partner with Valley Veterans and L&F Distributing for a happy hour salute to all of our Veterans. So please make plans to join for Historical Happy Hour: Veterans Day Salute! This adult centered event give guests the chance to relax with a drink or two while visiting the museum after hours. The newly renovated Heritage Museum sports a working tap in the in-house Crixell Saloon. This program is adult only
The original Crixell Saloon was located on Elizabeth and 12th Streets, in the heart of downtown Brownsville. The three brothers – Teofilo, Vincente, and Joseph (Jose) – were successful saloon owners and they eventually expanded to a second location across from Market Square, calling it the White Elephant Saloon. The brothers were involved in local politics, with Teofilo and Vincente both serving as City Commissioners. They continued to work in the saloon business until they were shut down by Prohibition in the 1920s. The recreated Saloon located in the museum is set in 1912 at the original Saloon – the same year Jose was shot and killed by political rivals.
