The Children's play, "Magica A Magical Christmas" (in English) by Adan Sanchez On a cold Christmas Eve little 8 year old Billie, played by 3rd grader Dezerae Ibarra, is left at home on Christmas eve under the care of Ms Birch…"Birch like the wood", says the strict nanny, played by Armandina Sesin. Billie's mom and dad had to step out suddenly to help uncle Fred who got stuck in the snow. Billie and her three stuffed toy animals who magically come to life help the mean nanny realize that being nice and having friends is the best thing that could ever happen, especially during Christmas.
This original short children's play, in English, was written nearly 20 years ago by Texas native Adan Sanchez who at the time was living and working as an actor in New Mexico. "Sanchez had plans to add on to the play in the future but his untimely death at the age of 40 did not allow for it, and the play has remained a short and delightful story with three original songs and melodies that were also written by Adan", said Pedro Garcia who is directing the play. "I remember becoming friends with Adan, a more seasoned actor, when I moved to New Mexico to begin acting myself in 1987. Adan took a liking to me and my acting style and would constantly advise me on how to be better at the craft. He was very talented and with much experience. He also shared information with me about auditions he was going to and said you should audition as well, if they don't cast me they might choose you, you never know. He was that kind of person, one to share", added Garcia.
Presented by The Pharr Community Theater, the play marks the company's fifth year of producing locally cast plays. Producer and founder, Elva Michal says, "Magica, A Magical Christmas is a wonderful way to begin the Christmas season because it reflects the true spirit of this season of peace, joy and good will toward men. Just as a little child, with her toys, can transform the life of her mean Nanny - the play reminds us that each of us can also strive to show love and compassion to our family and neighbors -- even in our grouchiest moments! Bring your children to see this play! They will love it.!"
