Australian blues/soul guitarist, singer and songwriter, Karl Morgan, based in Austin, will headline the McAllen Chamber of Commerce’s first ever Blues Night Friday, June 28. The event is sponsored by Shah Eye Center.
The Leigh Holles Band and Lamar Jones will also perform.
Morgan came to the US to pursue his music dream in 2008 with the help of independent label Pied Piper Records and has since made Austin his musical home.
While he cites Eric Clapton as his primary influence his style is also strongly informed by influences such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, and many other blues and soul artists, including Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, BB King, Albert King, Freddie King, James Brown, The Meters, Aretha Franklin, The Allman Brothers Band, Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, The Band, Al Green, and Marvin Gaye.
Karl made his debut release, 'Talkin' With the Hands', in 2007 through independent label, Pied Piper Records, and released his second album , 'Burning Heart' in October of 2011. 'Burning Heart' was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee with his US band, Wilson Carr and John Duran, and released alongside fellow blues trio, Baby Atlas, at the famous One-2-One Bar in Austin.
McAllen Blues Night will feature food from Frida’s Bar and Cantina, beer and wine tasting from Glazer’s, and a silent auction to benefit the arts in McAllen.
