At our core Island Folk Festival is a celebration of the independent music and arts community. In 2014 veterans of the Texas music scene decided to create an artist centered event set in the premiere tourist destination of South Padre Island. Island Folk Festival provides an immersive festival experience with luxury hotels, condos, and restaurants instead of soggy tents and impersonal lines. The boutique nature offers world class music and design with family fun activities. A community produced venture, Island Folk Festival prides itself on the musicians, artists, volunteers, and partners who come together to create. The 2015 Island Folk Festival shows marked growth from its inception. Remaining on South Padre Island the footprint has grown and is hosted gulf side at Clayton's Beach Bar and Grill. Clayton's is the largest beach bar in Texas and offers multiple covered stages, a giant deck, and sand volleyball courts. Music lovers will have a large selection of foods and beverages to enjoy during sets or while shopping with vendors. The festival has grown in length and number of artists; held for 4 days Sept. 10-13 with 40 acts. Favorites from last year return along with new nationally touring and acclaimed singers and bands. Highlights this year include ukulele duo The Love Lieghs, celebrated international singer Rebecca Loebe, and breakout indie folk band The Deer. Festival activities begin early with yoga followed by sand castle lessons and kite building. The athletes and game lovers will enjoy a sand volleyball tournament and island wide scavenger hunt. Afternoons see music workshops taught by the performers festival goers get to see on stage. The intimate nature of the festival brings out the fan in the artists, who can be seen mingling with the community and friends in between sets. Festival events runs from 9am-2am nightly. Life for our community is about enjoying sights and sounds while feeling connected. Island Folk Festival's mission is to create a space where musician and artist can share their work with a family of festival goers. From the lively discussions online to the commitments from artists of multiple disciplines we anticipate the 2015 festival to continue a spirit of fun and togetherness. Admission to the festival's music offerings remains FREE! For more on the #IslandFolk movement click over to www.IslandFolkFest.com or join the conversation on FaceBook, Twitter, and Instagram.
