***Event is FREE*** :) ***Public is strongly encouraged to attend!!!*** :) Gathering of the Texas (Rare) Fruit Growers of The Rio Grande Valley! Saturday, February 28th, 2pm @ The Valley Nature Center (301 South Border Ave., Weslaco, TX 78599). This will be a gathering where all are welcome who have an interest in fruit, plants, grafting and growing. Many who attended the initial TRFG-RGV gathering in August 2014 were exposed to an amazing variety of fruit that is being grown by people in their Rio Grande Valley home gardens! The August gathering gave everyone some new plants to go home with and we look to this February gathering for another opportunity to repeat the mission of having everyone give and receive even more exciting plants and fruits! Our December gathering had several new faces who were exposed to citrus fruit that was collected from the Upper Gulf Coast Citrus Show in Houston, Texas on December 4, 2014. Some of the 313 exhibited fruit, grown by 59 exhibitors, was distributed at our Rio Grande Valley meeting for a one-of-a-kind citrus tasting! Some of the citrus varieties distributed included, but was not limited to: -Oro Blanco Hybrid Grapefruit -Ponderosa Lemon -Panzarella Lemon -Pomelo -Calamondin -Kumquat -Tangerine -Mandarin -Moro Blood Orange We want to continue reaching out to those who want to share their growing experience, along with generating new friendships through (growing, sharing, and tasting) fruit! Please look around your plant collection, and consider bringing one, or multiple plants or fruits to the gathering for the opportunity to exchange with other people and perhaps, go home with one or many new fruits and/or fruiting plants! At our gatherings, we always discuss the following topics: -Rootstocks -Grafting -Soils -Fertilization -Pests -Pest Management -Fruit -Repotting Plants -Seedling Plants -Planting Seeds -Many other interesting topics will be discussed as well!!! Don't worry if you are new to gardening and don't have plants to exchange, as you can always exchange garden crafts, books, garden tools, and basically anything garden-related. We don't want anyone going home empty handed :) For those who do not bring plants, please consider bringing food to share, akin to a potluck affair! We will also have door prizes if anyone wants to donate something for the door prizes please post down below in the comment section what you wish to generously offer :) The Texas Rare Fruit Growers Club is a subchapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers
