Each year, over 25,000 people unite to celebrate the nation's birthday in one of the largest community events held at the McAllen Municipal Park and Archer Park.
Families from every corner of the Rio Grande Valley travel to witness a unique Fourth of July firework extravaganza in South Texas, dubbed the Concert in the Sky. The Annual Independence Day Parade features an evening filled with entertainment and festivities including music, food, games, and arts and crafts.
Activities typically commence at 8:00 a.m. with a performance by the McAllen Symphonic Band every year and conclude at around 9:00 p.m. with a firework show. The parade follows the traditional course north from City Hall along Main Street to Archer Park. After the morning Patriotic Program, which honors members of the United States armed services, viewers can enjoy the Fourth of July Parade showcasing locally made floats and marching bands.
Community members can take part in the Freedom Fest kick-off at Archer Park. Family -friendly entertainment like local music performances, games, and food are provided. People of all ages can participate in thrilling challenges like the Watermelon Seed Spit and Hot Dog Eating Contests, as well as the rock wall.
Afternoon festivities take place at the McAllen Municipal Park where children can take a dip in the Municipal Pool to cool off during the public swim event. The Splash Bash features plenty of more activities for children. The Fourth of July festivities also feature a Kiddie Carnival open to the public for more fun and games. As the sun sets, community members gather around to witness the magical Concert in the Sky, the festival highlight, which pays ultimate homage to our Independence Day celebration.
